If you have never had homemade pasta, you simply do not know what you are missing. While there are plenty of places that sell "homemade" pasta, it is does not compare to when you make it yourself. Unless you have very skilled hands and some intensive training, the best way to make sure the pasta comes out perfect every time is to use a pasta making machine. 

Ravioli has long been a favorite in any pasta easting household. It goes back to the days when we were kids eating Chef Boy-Ar-Dee because we did not know any better. As an adult, it would be almost sacrilege to consider that canned pasta as authentic Italian cooking. One thing we can say though, that little can of pasta is responsible for giving millions of kids the "taste" for pasta for many years to come.

In adulthood, our tastes get a little more refined and Chef Boy-Ar-Dee just will not do it anymore. This is when our obsession with gadgets comes into play and having fresh pasta is often our excuse to get an electric pasta maker. Luckily, for all of us, pasta machines are much easier to come by than they were just a few short years ago.

Whether you choose to shop online or hit the pavement to find a pasta maker  at a local store, the choices are abundant at every price point. It is probably best to take the cheap route the first time around just to see if you can make the pasta and actually enjoy doing it. Even the less expensive machines will last for a few years while you perfect your trade, and then it is time to buy one of the fancy machines.

Fresh pasta may be one of the best things any lover of Italian cooking can experience. One plate is all you will ever need to never want to open a box of dried pasta again. It will take a little effort, but the results are well worth it. By the way, you are probably also guaranteed that Chef Boy-Ar-Dee will never make an appearance in your kitchen again.
